Faith and Fear

Faith and fear are strong forces that every person experiences as they walk through life, they are common to all man-kind.

Faith has been defined from a Christian standpoint as:  Forsaking All I Take Him.  Certainly, that is an accurate definition of the term from that standpoint.  However, you don’t need to be a believer in Jesus to experience faith.

It seems rather obvious to me that you must learn to have faith to do just about anything in this world.  Trust is a huge part of faith, because if you do not trust someone you cannot have faith in them, and this will affect your relationship to them and with them.

There are many objects that people trust in and put their faith in.  One example would be a product advertised on television.   Commercials try to convince us that their product is the best on the market, their hope is to influence us to buy their product.  When you trust that they are telling you the truth you put your faith in what you have seen and you buy the product.

Another example we could use is something as simple as sitting down on a chair, which is also an act of faith.  You must know that the chair will support your weight and then you trust in the chair and sit down.

Recently, America has had an election in which the candidates for the office of President made promises to the people.  The person most Americans believed, trusted in and put their faith in, is the man who now sits in that office.

Faith is force, a power, that can change the world.  Each person has that power within himself.  I believe that this power is part of who we are because we were created “in the image and likeness of God”.  That being said, faith can be a force for good or evil.

Fear is also a force to be reckoned with.  The source of fear is most often from the side of evil, but there is a fear that is inherent in us by nature, and that is the fear that kicks in when we are threatened.  We will do one of two things, we will either fight or we will  flee.  Preservation and protection is uppermost at that point.  It is natural.

There is a fear that is supernatural, even demonic.  This fear first deceives, then blinds and finally binds a person up; it keeps them locked up, imprisoned in an imaginary world that appears so real.  By definition fear is:  False Expectations Appearing Real.

Job declared:  “That which I greatly feared has come upon me.”  Fear opens a door for further destruction.  Anxiety, fear, and depression cause a person to spiral downward and if not stopped will lead finally to self-murder.  So many people are in bondage because a door to fear was opened.

The antidote to fear is trust….trust in the One who loves like no other, accepts like no other and proved it beyond just words.  This is the one who “sticks closer than a brother”.  This is the one who has promised, “Call upon me in the day of trouble and I will deliver you.”  He has promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  This is the creator God who loved so much that He took flesh and walked the earth as a man, experienced all that we do and then paid a price he didn’t owe, because we owed a price we could not pay.

Faith and fear…both will be with us as long as we live.  Understand, gain knowledge, both of God and the enemy, and use wisdom to discern the source of what you are hearing and feeling.  It will mean life or death to your quality of life on this planet and in the world to come.

Knowing You Jesus lyrics

by Graham Kendrick

All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this

Knowing you, Jesus
Knowing you, there is no greater thing
You’re my all, you’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I love you, Lord

Now my heart’s desire is to know you more
To be found in you and known as yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All-surpassing gift of righteousness

Oh, to know the power of your risen life
And to know You in Your sufferings
To become like you in your death, my Lord
So with you to live and never die
