Life is not easy. I am sure that most of you would agree with that statement. The Bible says: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:19
Trying times prove what is inside of us. My mentor used the example of a tube of toothpaste when squeezed…what is inside comes out. Trying times squeeze us and we say and do things we would not during better days.
“This is a test, this Is only a test!” In my youth, many times, I heard this statement on the radio. When times of testing come to us, and they do to us all, they cause us to stop and consider our course in life or they cause us to react to the circumstances.
If we are believers in Jesus and have chosen to enter into the walk of faith, we have been prepared for the tests that inevitably will come. God has given us His armor, His name and His blood that was shed on the cross. We are armed with prayer as a weapon. All of this is available to whoever will take it up.
Somehow many of us like to believe that a loving God would never let us go through anything hard or difficult. And yet if we are honest with ourselves, we know that is not a reality of life on planet earth. Life as a Christian is not only peaceful and pleasant, but also hard and difficult. We are spiritual people living in a carnal world where the god of this world hates us. There is persecution because of the Spirit of God who lives within us. But there is also comfort because of the Spirit of God who lives within us.
I an struck with the reality that most of us do not take the Bible seriously or we sadly misinterpret it. My cousin said the Bible has a lot of killing; his perspective of God was that He is a hateful God who likes to kill people. If he had read on further he would have seen that God is love and everything that He does is because of His love. Sometimes the most loving thing that can happen is to remove evil from the world. Think capital punishment. A life for a life under the law. Only the gospel offers pardon when there is repentance.
God dealt with the nation of Israel through the law and the prophets as recorded in the Old Testament . God dealt with the Gentiles through the apostles as recorded in the New Testament. He has dealt with all in His love. All of it was recorded for our benefit. But none of it was recorded so that we may pick and choose what we want to accept and what we don’t. We must accept the whole counsel of God.
Today I am thankful. I am thankful that I met Jesus as a young person and have been getting more intimately acquainted with Him as I age. I have experienced some very difficult things in my 81 years but I can truly say that God has been faithful and delivered me out of all my troubles. His Word is true and He alone is faithful and to be worshipped and praised. I commend Him to you.
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in Him.” Psalm 34:8
I pray that you will find Him faithful in all of the circumstances of your life, and if for the moment you are experiencing a difficult time, a test, I pray that you will turn to Him with all your heart and let His love soothe the hurt and wounds you have. I love you with the love of the Lord and I pray that somehow these feeble words of mine have helped you along the way.
