A Snowy Day…A Plane Crash

The snow was falling softly in great big flakes as I drove my four year old son to nursery school, it was January of 1975. My two year old was in a car seat.

The corner that I was approaching was familiar to me. It was normally a busy intersection at that time of the morning, but this day there were very few vehicles there. As it turned out, that was a very good thing.

On my right and just ahead of me was a small apartment building. To the left was a strip mall and there was a gas station on the corner there.

Suddenly, I heard what I knew was an airplane motor. It was close. I couldn’t see it, but I knew it was in trouble and that it was going to crash.

“I am going to pull into the parking lot.” I said.

I stopped the car, got out and ran toward the airplane that was now on the ground.

“Stay in the car”, I said to my boys.

As I approached the plane I could see a man in the passenger seat. Fear was on him, he was pleading, “My arm is stuck, get it loose!” I reached through the broken window and lifted his arm. It came loose easily.

At that point I heard something. Looking over I saw what appeared to be a salmon colored pillow, I didn’t realize it was the pilot until I came around to the left side of the plane. His head was under the dashboard. I placed my left hand under it and brought his head out.

I was holding his head in my hand when I heard: “Leave the area!”

At that point, I noticed that there were many police and rescue people on the scene. The area had been cordoned off with yellow and black plastic tape. I had been totally unaware of anything around me up to that time. I did not even notice that the snow around the plane was covered with fuel and could have ignited at anytime.

As I moved around the front of the plane to leave, a policeman was helping a woman out of the back of the plane. He seemed bewildered. He said, “I don’t know where to take her.” I said, “My car is just over there if you want to put her in there.”

We both heard the order, “Take her into the gas station.” He took one of her arms and I took the other and we walked her into the station. Bringing her to the back wall of the entrance, she slid down to the floor where she sat in disbelief of what had just happened.

I had the thought that I should sit in front of her to shield her from the drafts caused by the door opening and closing all the time. People were coming and going constantly.

I don’t know how long I sat there before a woman came over to the woman on the floor and began to ask questions. Not knowing who this woman was, or why she was asking her so many questions, I felt irritated with her. My thought was, “She just came out of a crash, leave her alone.” Nevertheless, it was part of God’s overall plan, as you will see when my story is over.

I learned that the woman involved in the crash was Mrs. McCullough. She, her husband and their daughter were with their pilot on their way to Canada for business when the plane began to have trouble. The pilot Don, had followed the river, trying to find the airport when the crash occurred.

Many people in the area heard the plane and it was later revealed that much prayer had gone up to God for the people in that plane. God heard!

The “nosy” lady turned to me and played her twenty questions game. I didn’t see what the point of this was, but I answered, giving her my name and telephone number. My four year old came into the station, questioning, I told him, “Get back into the car.”

Shortly after that, the McCullough’s daughter was brought into the station and laid along the wall by her mother. She had a broken right arm, the bone stuck out of the flesh about three inches. As one can imagine, she was crying in pain.

The week before this crash occurred, I had read a book about several different kind of prayers. In that book there was a prayer the author called, a “channel” prayer. When you did not know what to pray, you simply prayed, “Dear Lord, let me be a channel for your will to be done.” I reached my hand out to touch the girl and silently prayed that prayer. The girl instantly stopped crying.

A tall man in a big, black overcoat came into the station. He asked Mrs. McCullough and the girl some questions and then ordered paramedics to take the girl to the hospital. At that point, I came to myself. There is no other way to describe it. I became aware of everything, not the least of which was my two boys. I got up and went to my car.

I sat there trembling, thinking, “What am I to do now?” I couldn’t take my son to school. I wanted to be with someone, but who, as I was not an outgoing person who had friends to go to. I needed prayer. I recalled that the church ladies were meeting to do a project, I would go there. Sadly, all that happened there was a cup of tea and sympathy and then they went back to their project. I went home.

During the night, about two in the morning, something I had not experienced up to that point happened, I was hit with travail. Falling upon my knees, I began to weep, moan and groan for someone. I pleaded, “Please God, let him live.”

The next morning, about nine, my phone rang. It was the “nosy” lady. She began to regale me with her exploits of the morning. She had been to the hospital to see the McCulloughs and told me that Mrs. McCullough wanted to see me. I politely refused. She would not take no for an answer, so I promised I would go see her.

In that time period, you did not go to visit someone in the hospital without taking flowers or a gift, it just was not done. My problem was that I had only $1.98 and what could you buy with that? There were no credit cards in our lives at that point. So, off to the hospital I went.

When I arrived in the gift shop of the hospital, I looked for some flowers, but they were much more money than I had. God knew my heart, for way in the back was a small rose bowl with a single carnation floating in water for the exact amount of money that I had. He is so good!

I walked into Mrs. McCullough’s room and gave her the flower. She was the chatty type of a person, outgoing and friendly. She talked about the people that had come to see her and then said, “Who are you?” I was shocked by the question as I assumed she would know me. After all, I had sat in front of her for what seemed like an hour at the gas station.

“I am Joy.”, I said. She replied, “No, you are not!” “Joy has long blonde hair that turns up at the ends and the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen, and you are not her.”

I tried to explain that I was there and that perhaps she didn’t recognize me because I had on a different jacket and mittens, since the others had blood on them. She would not accept that. She knew what she saw. I told her that perhaps she saw angel, but I was indeed there. She would not be convinced.

Over the next few weeks, I visited them. Each time I would hear more of what God had done for them and in them. He did much healing in them and the pilot as well. Their daughter was sent home within the week of the accident, as she had only the broken arm and some bruises. As I recall the prognosis for their recovery was in terms of a year or years, but God shortened the time at least by half.

A few years ago now, I received a phone call from the pilot, Don. He caught me up to date on his life. He ended up marrying his nurse and they live in Iowa. He became a Christian. It was he that I travailed for that night. Thank God he is living for the Lord.  He told me that the McCullough’s never did believe that I was there.

Sadly, as far as I know today, the McCullough’s did not remain with the Lord. They were back-slidden Christians at the time of the accident. After the accident, they went back to the place they lived and were on several TV. and radio programs, sharing their testimony. I later heard that they had walked away again.

Bethany Publishing was going to do a book about this story, but because of the lifestyle of the McCullough’s, they never did.

I trust that this incident in my life has caused you to see how much God loves His own, the back-slider and the lost.

God bless you today, friends!

Rejection and Insecurity

Every person is born with a longing to belong.  Every person has an innate desire to share his time, his thoughts with someone.  Every person, every human being, every one has a need to be accepted and loved.  At some time in every life, a person will be rejected, will feel rejected, not accepted, not loved.  What does this lead to?  What happens within a person then?  That’s what I want to look at today.

Dr. James Dobson, the former head of Focus on the Family, worked at a hospital early in his career. The hospital’s director called a meeting one morning.  The room was full of women as Dr. Dobson walked in and took the end seat in the front row.  In the back of the room was a table with coffee and refreshments.  The women were all seated.

The director walked in and greeted everyone.  She laid out the format for the meeting, She said that they would have coffee first and then proceed.  Everyone was invited to go to the tables in the back of the room.  No one moved.  Dr. Dobson then said, “Thank you, I believe I will.”, and he stood up. Instantly every woman in the room stood up.  He shared this story to show how rejection, intimidation and inferiority hinders, women especially, from doing what they desire to do.

On a personal level, women seem to me to have a greater need to share their lives with others than men do.  When I counsel young women, I tell them to be sure that they have a few “girlfriends” to do things with.  I have several friends, but I have a few close friends that I pray with, have a meal with, go to a meeting with or just spend time with.  My need to share who I am and hear who they are is very great.  Though I am married, my husband does not meet that need for me as he does not have a need to share like I do.

I received a call yesterday from a young woman whom I mentored for three years.  I had to stop mentoring her because she came to depend upon me and not upon God.  It had been a long time since I had spoken with her personally.  I had heard from others that she had grown in her faith, but that she was still dealing with some major issues.

Her situation is a classic rejection scenario.  When she was 18 months old her dad sent her outside to play, locked the door and would not let her in all day.  The impact of that day affected her whole life.  She was diagnosed as being bi-polar, having the intellect of a young child, even though I found her to be very quick to understand and remember the things I taught her.  Unfortunately, she did not always do what she knew she should do.

When she was six years of age her mother and dad divorced.  She and her brother were raised by her mother.

Her mother had a “boyfriend”, who sexually molested her, and subsequently she was raped several times by an extended family member as well.  Not unusual for this scenario, she has had a problem with lust her whole life.  Soul ties are formed and unless broken, they continue to dominate the soul.

She has had numerous “boyfriends” and one husband, whom she divorced because he did not meet her “needs”.  She claims to be a Christian, to believe in God, having received Jesus as her personal savior.  But, she has great struggles with her sexuality.

God loves her even though she can’t get a handle on His love or how His love is that which finally fills the love, acceptance box in her soul.  It is only the love of God that sets the soul free at last from the rejection we all receive by living in this fallen world.

Now, let’s talk about self-worth.

Many years ago, I was on a prayer journey in Europe.  Several of us went into the red light district in Holland.  It was appalling to the senses.  There was a house that was built similarly to a ship, that is to say that the front of the house was like the prow of a ship.  It was all windows and two-story.

The top room of the house was bathed in blue light.  In that room there was one of the most beautiful blonde woman I have ever seen.  She was scantily clad, posing for those on the street to see.  The lower room was bathed in red light and in that room was a beautiful brunette woman.  These two women were the advertisement for the brothel.

How could someone who was so beautiful in form and face do what these women did?  Couldn’t they have done something without demeaning who they were, who God created them to be?  What was the answer?

Many years ago a reporter was interviewing a Miss America candidate.  In the interview she complained about having fat on her stomach, to which the reporter wrote, “It was unbelievable that this beautiful girl, who looked perfect, did not see herself as she was.”

Anorexia and bulimia are called diseases.  I recently listened to Karen Carpenter sing a beautiful Christmas song.  She was a victim of Anorexia.  What a shame and what a loss to the world to have that beautiful voice silenced.

Alcoholism, something I am intimately acquainted with, is another area that many are calling a disease.  My dad began using when he was a teen-ager.  The result of a lifetime of use caused him to lose his home, his wife, his children and ultimately his life.  Unfortunately, this so-called disease, passes down the generations and there are other family members who are bound by it.

Will any of these keep you out of Heaven?  No!  The way to Heaven is through faith in Jesus.  Are Alcoholism, anorexia, bulimia, prostitution, sexual immorality very real?  Yes! In my opinion they are all the result of rejection, only symptoms of a need to fill the hole in the soul.  Self-medication…so that they can “feel” accepted.

Do these things satisfy the very real need that people have?  No!  They are temporary fixes at best.  At the worst, they take your earthly life and unless you have been born-again by the Spirit of God, they will condemn you to eternity without God, life, love and light; for eternity the enemy will torment you because you chose your sin and not God.

If you have a problem with any of the things I have highlighted today please know that the issue is rejection.  You can be set you free.  The answer is found in receiving Jesus as your Savior and your Lord.

“He (God) chose us to be his very own, joining us to himself even before he laid the foundation of the universe!  Because of his great love he ordained us, (marked us with His love) so that we would be seen as holy in his eyes with an unstained innocence.  For it was always in his perfect plan to adopt us as his delightful children through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One, so that his tremendous love that cascades over us would glorify his grace —for the same love he has for his Beloved One, Jesus, he has for us.  And this unfolding plan brings him great pleasure!”  Ephesians 1:4-6 The Passion Translation

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”                          Ephesians 1: 4-7 The King James Version

It was this passage that set me free from rejection.  I felt like I didn’t belong to anyone.  I felt like an orphan.  Rejection consumes your mind, your will and your emotions.  It binds you like a straight jacket and colors your whole world.

It is amazing how the world opens up when your realize that God knew you before he even created the world.  How God sees you and me is so different from how we see ourselves or how others see us.  Love glasses, love lenses change everything.

Yesterday a group of friends celebrated Christmas with a friend of ours who is slowly inching toward eternity.  Her heart is failing, but her spirit is strong.  We began to sing a Christmas song and I realized that it may be the last time we have this time with her.  It hit my emotions, my soul.  I know where she is going and I have peace that she is being prepared to meet Jesus, but the thought of this one that I have shared a portion of my life with, not being here, saddened me.  I love her.

Love overcomes when we yield to it.  The God kind of love is without condition.  He loves because He is love.  He once told me that He loved the alcoholic lying in the street covered in his own vomit as much as He loved the most righteous man in the land.  I cannot comprehend that kind of love, I can only accept it and I do.

Everyone has issues that they deal with constantly.  We live in a fallen world, there is no perfect man on this planet.  But, there is a perfect man in Heaven, Jesus is there.  He prays for us constantly, because He understands what it is like to live here.  I have loved ones there and I believe that they also bring requests to Father for those of us that are here.  They are waiting with joy for us to come home.

I know that this has been long friend, but I felt strongly to address this today.  I pray that you have been touched in some way to draw near to God through Jesus.  If you have met Him, you know how much you are loved.  If you have not met Him yet…consider it.  Oh, how He loves you and me.

Affectionately,                                                                                                                                          Joy

Shy

There are some of us that think like this:  I am a shy person.  How does Merriam-Webster define the word shy?

Shy:

  1.  Easily frightened: TIMID
  2. disposed to avoid a person or thing
  3. hesitant in committing oneself: CIRCUMSPECT
  4.  sensitively diffident or retiring: RESERVED
  5.  SECLUDED, HIDDEN
  6.  having less than the full or specified amount or number.
  7.  DISREPUTABLE

There you have it.  I think that most people are thinking of shy as the definition in number 4 above explains when they tell you that they are shy.  There are some who use shyness as a reason or perhaps an excuse for not doing something that is required of them in any given situation.  Being shy is an outward manifestation of what is deposited in the soul.

The soul is a repository of every experience that a person has ever had, usually complete with pictures, emotions and attitudes.  When the Bible says, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”, I believe it is referring to the soul.  The deposits on the pages of the soul determine the words and actions that we take.

Depending on age, we have little or much that is imprinted on the pages of the soul.  Depending on circumstances what is imprinted there can be good or bad and either encourages or discourages us.  I believe it controls us to some degree.

The soul of a person contains his mental capacity, his will and his emotions and affections.  In essence the soul of a person is what you encounter when you meet them.

There is another way of seeing the soul, and that is defined by personality.  By this I mean, is the person reserved or are they outgoing.? I have a friend who sees other people as friends she hasn’t met yet.  She loves to talk to people and has many “friends”.

There are other people who are more reserved, quieter by nature, they have a harder time speaking with people they don’t know.  They have a few friends with whom they are very close.  They may even appear to be aloof, but in reality it is their personality.

So far I have been speaking from the natural standpoint.  There is one factor that can change all of this and that is the experience of meeting Jesus the Messiah.  This experience is life changing.  Perhaps I should say that it can be life changing.

When a person asks Jesus to come into their life because they see that this is a good thing to do, their experience may be true or it may not be.  Some people have been “scared” into accepting Jesus into their life by someone telling them that they will go to Hell if they don’t.

It is good to receive Jesus into your life; by receiving Jesus you are brought out of the kingdom of darkness and transferred into the Kingdom of God, which is light and Heaven becomes your destination.  But, many who claim to be Christians (Christ ones) have never had a real experience with the Savior, repented of their sin and turned to Him for salvation.  It can be mental assent and that is not the true conversion experience.

When you truly see that it was your sin that caused Jesus to be crucified, it breaks you, it changes you, there is no other way.  He is the only way.  When you ask Him for forgiveness, you experience being “born-again”.  Your human spirit becomes new, this is defined as a new creature, a new creation, something that never existed before.  If you have not experienced that, if I were you I would question whether what I have is true.

While the spirit of a man is made into something that did not exist before, fashioned for the Kingdom of God, becomes “a son of God”, the soul remains the same as it was.  There is usually no change but some have experienced an instant release from destructible habits.

The Word of God states that it is by hearing the Word preached, by fellowship (hanging around) with the people who are like you now, and reading and studying the Word of God, that your soul will be changed.  This is a process that will go on your whole life.  It is that your soul will become like Jesus when He walked on the earth.  It is to fit you for Heaven as well as to equip you to do the work of ministering for the Kingdom of God on the earth.

I am shy therefore I can’t……..    The Word of God says:  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

If you have been born-again, if you have taken your soul to the Word of God, if you fellowship with other believers on a regular basis, if you have asked God to fill you with His Holy Spirit, if you have done all you know to do promote and strengthen God’s Kingdom on the earth, if you pray earnestly for the things that are on the heart of the Father, then your soul will be transformed and you will no longer be timid, reserved, hidden, but you will choose to do whatever the Holy Spirit leads you to do.  As someone said, “Sometimes I just do it afraid.”

When someone says, “I am shy.”  I think, “They are self-centered not God-centered.”  When we are God-centered we can literally do the exact opposite of our natural temperament, our natural inclinations.  That is why the Apostle Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Jesus wants to live in us, with us and through us.  He wants His Father’s will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.  That is why He taught His disciples to pray that way.  Father sent the Holy Spirit to indwell every believer , He gives us the power we need to live a victorious life here on the earth.

I trust that this message will help you to see that you really can do more for God than you thought you could.  Draw upon the power of the Holy Spirit and you could be another Billy Graham, another Rees Howells or another John Kilpatrick.   All things are possible to those who believe.   Only believe!

In His love,

Happy Thanksgiving!

Time

It has been quite a while since I have posted here.  My life is full of God opportunities, which to the best of my ability I take.  In other words I am about my Father’s business.

Having said that, this morning there are so many thoughts upon my heart that I could probably go on here for quite sometime.  But, I want to share with you, dear reader, this thought:  Time is a box and we are all given an allotted portion in it.   We are expected by God to use that allotment wisely.

God is not limited to time.  He is not in a box, any box;  He created time and is therefore the Lord of time.  He created mankind and placed them into a box we call time.  We are born into the earth at a specific time, a time that we celebrate as our birth day.  There is a time we call death or dying, where we leave the earth life and go on into eternity.

Mankind is first of all a spirit and a spirit does not die.  The spirit of a man goes into eternity at the death of the body, and if the person has believed in their heart and confessed with their mouth that Jesus is Lord, when it goes into eternity it will go to Heaven

Recently, Isaiah 66:18 stood out to me.  “It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues and they shall come and see my Glory.”

I believe that God is saying that men shall come to Him and they shall see God’s Glory (His manifest presence) and the result will be that many will come to Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

Many are saying that time is running out, that the second coming of Jesus to the earth is imminent.  God knows.  What I feel certain of is that like harvest time comes to crops planted in fields, harvest time for the earth, for mankind to come to know God as their Father, Jesus as their Savior and Lord and Holy Spirit as the one who comes alongside in this earth realm, has come.

Isaiah the prophet said something like this, my paraphrase:  “My ways are not your ways, nor are my thoughts your thoughts, for as high as Heaven is above the earth so are my thoughts than yours.”  We cannot see the wind, but we can see the result of the wind.  “Awaken, thou that sleepest!”  The signs are everywhere.

God is fulfilling in each of our lives the allotted portion of time given to each of us.  What we do with that time will determine rewards when we stand to give an account for the time we have been given.

When the harvest of the earth takes place, many will come to faith in Jesus and choose to follow Him.  There is great need for those who know Him to be ready to teach and to demonstrate Kingdom of God life to them.

It is written :  “Can two walk together except they be agreed.”

If we look at America at this present time we see a fractured, splintered people, divided. by ideologies. Elijah the prophet spoke to ancient Israel:  “How long do you halt between two opinions, if the Lord is God serve Him, if Baal is god serve him.” There is a standard and God set it.

Joshua gave a challenge to Israel as they came out of Egypt to enter into the land God had promised to Abraham.   “Choose this day whom you will serve, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Choices are being made that will affect eternity for many.  It has become clear and will become more clear, that it is a choice between dark and light, God and Lucifer, also known as the devil (accuser)and satan (adversary).  The new world order will come, the one world religion will come, the perfect man will come, but not now, not yet.  It isn’t time.

God gives everyone 24 hours each day.  Each person has a lifespan, some short and some long.  The choices we make affect how short or long it is.  God knows what each of us will do with the time given.  He does not determine that time.  Man has no excuse for how he spends his time.  Each of us makes choices.  The choices we make are solely our responsibility.  These choices, these decisions, either limit or enhance our lives, and they also determine where we will spend eternity.

Time is a commodity, it can be spent wisely or foolishly.  The fruit of time spent is in your heart and in your mouth.  You will receive the consequences of your choices

People speak of killing time, but time cannot be killed.  People waste time, pass time etc.  Time requires some kind of action on our part.  We will answer for how we spent it.

Let us use the time we are given on this planet wisely.

Do you know the giver of time?  Have you come to know God through Jesus His Son?  If you have not, what better time than now.  Give your heart, your life, your time to Jesus, He died that you might live for God on earth and through all eternity.

Father, in Jesus name, I ask that You will touch each person who reads my message today and from then on;  that You will show them that You love them and have a good plan for their lives.  Bring many to salvation in Jesus, Father, I pray.  Amen.

Restoration

Restore.  Re Store…it presents the picture of a store that is empty and it is being stocked once more, made ready for business.  To”Re” anything is to do it again.

I am thinking of the natural disasters that have taken place recently.  The hurricanes, the floods, the wild fires, the volcanic eruptions and the earthquakes that have taken place in recent months have been called “disasters of Biblical proportions”.  The earth, quite possibly, is groaning under the weight of the sin of mankind.  I think that the Bible indicates this possibility.

It is written in Romans 8:22, the New King James version of the Bible:  “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”  It is possible that the birth pangs are growing stronger because the birth it alludes to is coming close.

Going back to verse 21 of the above passage, we read:  “Because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the sons of God.”

The earth and mankind were made subject to the curse spoken by God to Adam as recorded in Genesis 3: 17-19.  It was disobedience to God’s Word that caused the curse to come upon the earth and it is obedience to God’s Word that will cause the restoration of mankind first and then the earth.

Restoration can have many faces.  Damage can be done to a marriage by wrong choices or decisions.  When people are selfish the only thing considered is, “What is in it for me?”  Self at the center is a huge black hole and everything is sucked into it.

I was speaking with a friend yesterday about how easy it is to throw a “pity party”.  The problem is that the emotion of self pity is part of the process leading into that big black hole.  The end is death, relationships die because no one wants to attend a pity party.

At this time most of the Body of Christ is praying for revival or awakening.  Most are aware how evil seems to have arisen in every quarter.  The intent of the mastermind of evil is to take over and obliterate anything that is of God.  It has been said that good and evil are manifesting at the same time now, but evil seems to be prevailing.  Some are wringing their hands and worrying.  But God has lifted the cover off it all and everything will be seen for what it truly is.

Many years ago I saw a graphic that depicted what I think is relevant to where we are today.  I saw a perpendicular arrow, an arrow on the right side of it called, “Religion” and an arrow on the left side called “New Age”.  The trajectory of the two side arrows was at a forty-five degree angle.

I was given to understand that the middle arrow represented the Kingdom of God on the earth and its people.  The two side arrows were movements on earth that would persecute the true church of Jesus Christ.  We surely are seeing the movement of the New Age in the political realm.  The Globalists are anti-Christ in their thinking and doing.

The religions of the world, in general, are anti-Christ, though there is an emergent group, called “Crislam” which sees Chritianity and Islam as serving the same God and they strive to bring the two together.  Most true Christians disagree that the God of the Bible is the god of Islam.

I think it is worth noting that nothing on this earth is static.  There is always movement and it is always toward God and His Kingdom or away from God and His Kingdom, and there are always consequences for every choice made.  It is also worth noting that making no choice at all is a choice.

I have considered the “ites” of Biblical times and the “isms” of today.  As far as I can see both were and are anti-Christ.  Communism was huge in the news when I was young.  People in Hollywood were suspected of belonging to the Communist party and were black-balled because of it.  A couple, the Rosenbergs, was tried for treason against America for their suspected Communist activity.

In recent years when Russia opened up and people began to come and go, those who came out were mostly atheists, because people of faith were driven underground when the Communist party took over.  The leaders lived high on the hog and the common man stood in lines to get a loaf of bread or a piece of meat, this was the result of Communism.

I just thought of a commercial I heard years ago:  “Promise her anything but give her Arpege.”  It was a perfume that was being touted.  The isms of the world promise many things, but in the end, what they deliver is never what was promised.

Today in Communist China there is an active underground church.  The Chinese leaders allow a certain amount of religion in the official church, but if anyone rises up with true faith to preach the true gospel, he is removed, jailed and worse.  Such is the “freedom” of Communism and its close kin, socialism.

Bernie Sanders is a self-proclaimed Socialist.  He interrogated someone recently for a post in the Trump government.  He has been accused by Pastor Robert Jeffres of crossing a line and violating the constitution in that examination because he focused on the persons Christian faith.  At issue is the intent and purpose of the founding fathers of America as written in the Constitution of the United States of America respecting freedom of religion.

The so-called separation of church and state has been wrongly interpreted and the American people have been brain-washed to believe that Christians have no place in the government and if they are there, they need to leave their faith at home.  It is a compartmentalized view of religion.  However, the true Christian faith is not an addition to a person’s life, it is his life.  He is transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God.  It is life-changing.  This is why it is referred to as being born-again, for literally it is like being born anew.

I want to point out that the true church of Jesus Christ is made up of people from every denomination.  I have known Catholic people and Baptist people who loved God with all their hearts and had a real relationship with Jesus.  The same can be said of every part of the Body of Christ, whatever the label applied to them.

A word of caution…the denominational organization itself is not sacrosanct, whatever the label, it is the people who are sanctified by the blood of Jesus who make up the true church.

To bring this to a close, it is my sense that God is sifting, weighing each person, giving them every opportunity to choose to follow Jesus.  I do not believe that He is judging anyone at this time.  I believe that He has souls on His heart.  It is written that Jesus died to bring many sons to Glory.

He wants people to know that He loves them and has a good plan for their lives.  His invitation is:  “Come to me if you’re weary, if you have labored long and hard and you’re tired of the world, tired of sin, yes, even tired of yourself.”  He will accept you just as you are, no preconditions.  The Bible tells us that God is love.  We cannot know that kind of unconditional love unless we turn from sin and receive what Jesus did at Calvary for us.

Today, if you hear His voice calling you to come, won’t you respond?  He is waiting for you.

The Kingdom of God

God has a kingdom. The King of that Kingdom is Jesus the Jewish Messiah. His Hebrew name was Yeshua, or Yahoshua, or Yahshua. I have seen it written many ways. It simply means Savior. Many men were named this as the people expected the Messiah to come and they hoped their son would be the one. They did not know God or His ways.

The Jewish people of today are a mixed tribal people made up of all 12 sons of Jacob. What is of interest to me is that many of the Jewish people still know what their ancestral tribe is.

God selected a man named Abraham as the federal head of this race of people. Back in history they were called Hebrews, today they are called Jews. This is predominantly because in the reign of King David, Israel, the name given to Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham, was divided into two kingdoms called Israel and Judah. From the name Judah came Jew. Today we know of the country called Israel and a people called Jews.

People have a way of changing and distorting history to suit themselves. Names and places are often changed. Even here in America this can be seen as many seek to find their ancestors through sources such as ancestry.com.

I see and I dream, not always, but as the Spirit wills. On the 14th of September in the place between sleep and awake, I heard the following words:

God has a kingdom, it is made up of many men, women, and children. He is issuing invitations to people to come in and become citizens.”

Jesus is the king of the kingdom. He is the way to become a citizen.”

Would you like to become a citizen of the Kingdom of God?”

When I got up I wrote the following:

“God has a plan and a purpose for every person on earth. He has given each of us the choice to accept His will and plan or to refuse it.”

“God loves you. He is our Father. (of those who have chosen Jesus) We (all) came from Him to earth on temporary duty. If you choose to accept His offer you will be among a company who will spend eternity in total bliss.”

“The alternative is that you will spend your allotted time on earth as you see fit and will spend eternity in a place bereft of all that is light and good.”

“The choice is yours. God loves you and His plan for your life is for good, not evil, but unless you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God, He has no legal right to send His blessing to you.”

“How do you become a citizen you ask?”

“You receive what God’s son, Jesus, did for you. He came to earth as a human being. His birth was through a woman named Miriam, Mary, a woman whose heritage was from the family of King David, the king of Israel. He was of the seed of Abraham.”

“Miriam was a young girl whom God had prepared to be the carrier of His seed. She was impregnated by the Holy Spirit of God, she was a virgin. This had been told by the prophets centuries before. `Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, He shall be called Emmanuel, God with us.”

“It is written that Yeshua, Jesus, was crucified on a Roman cross. He died and was buried. He rose up from the grave, from death. Then, as the High priest of God, He went back to His Father; taking His blood He placed it on the mercy seat before the throne of God. Because of this action, anyone can come to the Father in Jesus name and become a member of the Kingdom of God.”

“Jesus was on earth many days after His resurrection. It is my personal belief that prior to His resurrection Jesus appeared to every tribe of people on the earth to tell them about the Kingdom of God and the way to enter in.”

“After His resurrection, it is written that He sat down at the right hand of God. As the King of the Kingdom and as the High priest of the new covenant in His blood, He mediates that covenant, He lives to make intercession for the children of God”

Whosoever will may enter in to the Kingdom of God. It is simply a decision to do so. Jesus is the Way.

Would you like to become a citizen of the Kingdom of God? Ask and you will receive, when you desire it with all your heart.

Trophy – looking for love in all the wrong places.

Born in 1948, he was Nin’s 5th child.  Her Mother was not happy.  Yet one more baby for her to worry about.

Kenny was a happy baby.  He gurgled and cooed, smiled with his eyes, and charmed everyone who met him.

Nothing much changed about Kenny as he got older.  He still smiled with his eyes; he was active, always moving, doing something, testing her patience.

Then she became pregnant again, this time another boy.  They were close together, these two sons of hers, so close that many people thought they were twins.  The little brother was a follower.  He mimicked everything his big brother did.  Together Kenny and Larrie made quite a team.

Baby number 7 was born when Nin was 42 years of age.  She was a Down’s syndrome child, at that time called Mongoloid.  The extended family was quick to blame J.B.’s alcoholism.  Nin didn’t care what they thought, she loved her little one.  She gave me the privilege of naming her, I called her Cynthia Kay.  I thought she was beautiful.

Cindy was about 18 months old when Kenny and Larrie took her for a ride in the baby stroller.  Some of the neighborhood children gathered around and made very hurtful remarks about her looks.  Coming home, they asked Nin what was wrong with her, why did the children make fun of her.  The innocence of childhood and the love of family; they didn’t know she was different, she was just Cindy and she was their sister.

People are people the world over, we judge and criticize what we do not understand.  We still do it when we become adults, we are just more covert about it than children are.  How often do we say things to others that if said to us would cut deeply?  We don’t even think about that.  We should.

Kenny and Larrie got into a lot of trouble.  Mostly Kenny leading the way.  They were so cute, it was hard to be angry with them, but Nin did not let things go by.  Sometimes, she made them go to the tree in the back yard and pick the switch that she would use to swat them; but Kenny was a runner and he would take off, laughing as he ran away from her.

One day  a policeman showed up at the door.  It seems someone had seen the boys deface public property and reported it to the police.  Kenny heard him talking to her, ran upstairs and crawled under the bed, getting as close to the wall as he could.  That didn’t phase Nin, she got a broom and went after him.  He had to face the music.  He spent time cleaning up the mess.

When the boys became teen-agers, the issues became problems and heartaches for Nin.  Fast cars, fast girls, drinking and smoking, seemingly following in their father’s  footsteps.  By now Kenny was a very handsome young man.  He had no problem having a girl friend. Close calls driving drunk could have taken Kenny’s life, but God had a plan.

Nin saw to it that the boys had a strong work ethic, so when they were old enough they had to get a job.  Of course, it took money to live the lifestyle they wanted, and with J.B.’s alcoholism getting worse so that he couldn’t work, it was up to them to get it themselves.

Kenny had drive.  He wanted the finer things of life as he got older.  He saw what others had and he wanted it for himself.  He pushed ahead.  Military service side-lined his plans temporarily, but once he was back home he began his pursuit of things.

God brought him a wife, the perfect mate.  Though the ensuing years brought struggle and turmoil, God had a plan.  He lived a double life for quite a few years.  On the surface, he was a happily married man with two daughters, but he was sinning really well in private.

Trophy:  The apostle Paul said that he was the chief of sinners because he had persecuted Christians, though he said that he was ignorant, and that is why God could apprehend him.  Paul was one of God’s trophies.

As I thought about Paul today, I began to think of my brother Ken and wanted to share a piece of his story with you; I believe that Ken is one of God’s trophies.  Oh by the way, when he got older we had to stop calling him Kenny, he was now Ken.  (smile)

These days, Ken serves God as well as he served the devil, the world and his own flesh.  He is in love with Jesus and brings the good news of salvation to any who will hear.  He ministers love with his smiling eyes and kind words.  He is a trophy of the love of God.

I have no doubt that if God has a trophy room, Ken’s smiling face is there.

Love you my brother!

Joy

Revival

Deuteronomy 32:15  “But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked:  thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.”

There is much talk in the Christian community right now of revival and awakening.  Some have a ho hum attitude about  this, others are verbally pressing for it and some are actually striving in prayer for it.

Just what is revival?  If something is alive, not dead, it does not need to be revived.  How many are trying to revive a living thing?  If you are born of the Spirit of God you are alive.  If you are not born-again as Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be, John 3:7, then you are dead in your trespasses and sin, Ephesians 2:1.

To the church in Laodicea,  Revelation 3:14-22, Jesus spoke these words:  “I know your works, you are neither cold nor hot…because you are lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth.”    Many say that this is the state of the church today.

There is real currency and there is counterfeit currency.  There is real Christianity and there is counterfeit Christianity.  The Bible teaches that God knows those that are His because He searches every heart and nothing is hidden from Him.

In July of 1941, minister Jonathan Edwards read, in a monotone voice, a message that he titled:  “Sinners in the hands of angry God”,  If you have not read it I suggest you do.  There was no music, there were no graphics, there were no emotional stimuli, no “anointed” preaching.  But…the result of the rendering was the salvation of many in that congregation who thought that they were on their way to Heaven, who under the conviction of the Holy Spirit alone, cried and confessed their sinful attempts to make themselves right with and acceptable to a Holy God.

Books have been written by and about revivalists of past years, stories of revivals and awakenings abound.  Yet, in the heart of God’s people there is always a stirring for more than what we possess now, in our day, our time.  The reason?  Because we are alive.  Dead people have no desires, they are dead…It is a measure, a thermometer, take your temperature.

When I lay down in bed to go to sleep my temperature drops dramatically, consequently I use a lot more covers than someone whose temp. does not drop.  You might say that when believers begin to love the world more than they love their Lord, they become lukewarm, their temperature drops.  They are not excited anymore about the things of God.  And, the progression will eventually lead them into a backslidden condition.  If we stay with this analogy of natural sleep, I don’t need to be revived when morning comes, I need to wake up. My belief is that the church, all of it, is in asleep and needs to be awakened.

You can go into any church in the land and find a program to reach out to the children, the young adults, married people, and seniors, plus perhaps a hundred and one other programs to make sure that “no one slips through the cracks”.

Some years ago I had a dream that pointedly showed me how God feels about the condition of His church, those who feel that they must use some form of stimulation to keep people coming to church.  This dream was especially dealing with children.  I saw many forms of external stimulus, programs, ways, things, that would touch the soul and body of the young, but never reached their spirit.  I understood that this was a reason so many youth turned away when they became teens.  God showed me that when the power of God was there the youth ran to it.  No one had to try to convince them to come by artificial, external means. He drew them to Himself.

II Timothy 3:5  Paul, speaking of the last days of the church age, says of the church at that time:  “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”   What is form”  I think of it as a shape, kind of like when a house has been framed.  You know it is a house, but it isn’t liveable yet.  To me a form of godliness is having a relative existence In Christ, but not a relevant lifestyle, no indication of the master design in day to day living.

The following words come from Jonathan Edwards sermon mentioned above:  “What are we, that we should think to stand before Him, at whose rebuke the earth trembles and before whom the rocks are thrown down?”   He is Holy God and His Spirit is Holy Spirit.  This Holiness has caused proud men to fall before him and weep uncontrollably.

Ephesians 5:27  Paul speaking of Jesus and the church says, “That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”   Who among us is able to accomplish such a thing?  This is the work of the Holy Spirit and He alone.  He alone can awaken a sleeping church and clean it up.

“Each culture must be spoken to in a language it understands;  the counterfeit can be recognized by the manipulation of people’s emotions in which they make disciples unto themselves in order to advance, promote and supply their ministry.”

Natural man is prideful, rebellious, stubborn and hard hearted.  No one can reach his heart but the Spirit of God.  Many a person has been manipulated emotionally, walked down an aisle, gone to the alter, said a prayer and been told that they are now “saved”… but God’s Spirit was not involved.  The evidence?  No change in the life-style, no change in the desires and appetites.   They sit in church year after year, they learn how to talk Christian, and all the external Christian “stuff”, but in their hearts they are still not at rest in the Lord. They do not know His peace, His right way of living and the joy that comes of knowing the Lord.

Harvest time is coming.  Yet, today God stands ready to pity sinners, God’s unfailing love is still available to “whosoever will come” to Him and receive.  A day will come when His unmerciful wrath will be poured out on sin, on God-haters, on all who love and have believed The Lie that the liar has promoted from the beginning.  What is the lie you say?  Man is his own god,  “Every man doing what is right in his own eyes.”   It is called humanism.

Sell out to God, surrender your will to His will and yield to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. You will be glad for all eternity that you did.  Each time He comes to you with His offer of new life, and you refuse, your heart grows harder.  Consider carefully, your eternal destination depends on it.  This is the “acceptable year of the Lord.”  His hand is still reaching out to you.  Turn from the darkness of your soul and be filled with the one who is The Light of Life.

Are you a Christian and asleep, cozy and comfortable in your religion?  Wake up!  Time is going quickly by, this is the day of salvation.  Get out of your comfort zone!  There is a lost world out there that our Father cares about.  He is love and He wants His children to know Him.  There are family members that have not yet been adopted into the family.

Have you placed your whole self on the alter of surrender? Have you allowed the Holy One to examine your heart and show you yourself?  Have you allowed Him to show you Himself?  It is our job to present ourselves to God the Father through Jesus the Son so that His Holy Spirit can clean us up.  That is why and that is how you surrender.

Pray!  Pray for yourself, pray for your loved ones, pray for those who don’t know what you know…how good God is, how faithful He is, how kind, how gentle, how patient, what a wonderful God and Father He is.

Come now to the Father,

Come only by the Blood.

Come leaving all behind thee,

Come now to escape the flood.

Ephesians 5:14  “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

Are you sleeping?  Wake up!  Are you dead?  Receive new life!  Come to the Father, in Jesus name and He will give you Love, Life, and  Light .

May it be so…….Joyfully His.
